Job Seeker Finds True Work Flexibility with Remote Position

Shelby, who lives in Leeds, Alabama, told us she’d been on the lookout for a remote job for quite some time. “I have been wanting a flexible job for years now,” she wrote, responding to a series of questions FlexJobs asks successful job seekers.

Like many job seekers, Shelby struggled to find the kind of position where she could succeed and thrive—all while working from home. Her main hurdle, she said, was that she “was never able to find anything I was qualified to do.”

An online search for virtual work led Shelby to FlexJobs. “I was doing one of many Internet searches for work-from-home jobs,” she wrote. “I found out about FlexJobs and decided it couldn’t hurt to look.”

Her decision was driven by her ongoing determination to find true work flexibility. But it was tempered by the fact that she’d come up empty in the past, before FlexJobs. “I was so desperate for a job, I would have done anything,” Shelby said frankly, adding that theprice of a FlexJobs membershipseemed like a worthwhile investment. “The cost was low for a month, and I decided that if I didn’t find anything after a month, it wasn’t that much of a loss.”

Shelby’s experience looking for work on FlexJobs stood in stark contrast to her previous online search for work. “The jobs were easy to find and narrow down,” she told us. “I could find exactly what I wanted without wading through tons of jobs I didn’t want.”

The search strategies Shelby shared may be of use to other job seekers with similar backgrounds. “It was hard finding anything I was qualified to do since I don’t have acollege degree,” Shelby wrote. “Being able to search and apply online from the comfort of my home made the process much less stressful, and I’m so thankful for that. If I had been forced to go out every day and apply in person, I would not have ever done it.”

Inspiration for Other Job Seekers

“My new job as a captionist means I can work as much or as little as I want,” Shelby told us, describing the true work flexibility she now enjoys. “Right now I work part-time as I build up my typing speed, but I hope that within a few months I will be completely full-time.”

Shelby told us she was happy to share her story “to help others know that if I can do it, they can do it.”

She offered glowing reviews of her job at Rev.com, and of her newfound flexibility. “I love it,” Shelby wrote. “The work is challenging but interesting, and the staff there have been so awesome and friendly. This job is such a blessing I can’t even express it in words.
